Meet Stephanie Jurries - Your Adventure Guide

Stephanie Jurries has been commercial fishing with her husband in southeast Alaska since 2007. She is a commercial diver in the sea cucumber dive fishery and is deckhand to her husband when he dives in the geoduck clam fishery. Stephanie is a US Coast Guard licensed captain with a masters 100 ton near coastal license.

Stephanie is a transplant to Prince of Wales Island and is originally from the Sierra Nevada Mountains of northern California where she grew up hiking and backpacking in the mountains. She received a B.S. in Botany from Humboldt State University in 2004. Her education focused on ecological systems as a whole, in addition to in-depth studies of flowering and non-flowering plants, lichens, bryophytes, fungi, algae (seaweeds), birds, and animals (including marine invertebrates) .

In addition, Stephanie is an avid photographer and has been selling her photography since 2006. Her photography focuses on flowers and plants, wildlife, general nature, landscapes, and commercial fishing. She has been published in Alaska Magazine, Pacific Fishing Magazine, the Prince of Wales Island Visitors Guide, and Mother Earth News. Her photography is available as cards and large prints for sale at the Strictly Local Selections Art Gallery in Craig, Alaska. All images on this website are ©Emerald Island Photography.

Stephanie believes that southeast Alaska is truly one of the most unique and beautiful places left on the planet, and her goal with Emerald Island Adventures is to share the wonders of southeast with visitors!

The Luna Sea is a custom built 21' aluminum landing-craft built by Svensen Marine in Wrangell Alaska. She was designed specifically to be a dive boat for the sea cucumber fishery and is still used for that purpose during the fall dive fishery that runs from October-November each year.

The drop-bow door allows easy walk-off access to beaches for exploring and beach-combing. The forward deck allows great whale-watching viewing.

She was named after Luna the dog, who spent much of her life adventuring on the Luna Sea.
